    Dear Parent:

During the next two weeks your child will take tests called Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®). We give students the MAP assessment to determine your child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of Reading and Math. Your child will take the tests on a computer in their classroom.  This assessment is designed to determine what your child knows, therefore it is no need to prepare for it. The Fall assessment will not be used for a grade nor placement.

MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing.  Each school year, students in grades 3-8 take the tests in the fall and in the spring. Following each testing period, a report showing your child’s achievement and growth (if applicable) will be posted to your child’s Parent Resources account.

If you would like to know more about the purposes of the MAP assessment and how we will use the information obtained to promote your child's learning, please contact Erin Peacock, Director of Assessment K-12 at epeacock@mtsd.us

We are truly excited to continue to offer an assessment that is completely aligned to the Common Core Standards http://www.corestandards.org/ and that focuses on every child’s individual growth and achievement. As a result of their experience with MAP computer based-assessment and technology-enhanced test items, students in Montgomery Township will be well prepared for the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Career (PARCC) assessment http://parcconline.org/ which will become operational for the 2014-15 school year for students in grades 3-11.
