SUMMER SCHOOL AT MHS - 2021
For the summer of 2021, amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic, Montgomery's Summer High School SOAR program will be limited in its scope in several ways:
1 - Registration will be limited to In-District Families only
2 - To learn more about if your child is eligible to enroll in the credit courses, or to have seemingly all your questions related to credit courses, honors track students etc. answered - PLEASE visit our Frequently Asked Questions
3 - We are planning on one fully-virtual section of Geometry for this summer, however Algebra II will be an in-person class only.
4 - To be eligible to select virtual Geometry for the summer of 2021, students MUST, without exception, have selected the fully virtual option for the last choice period of the '20-'21 school year, which runs from April 19 - to the conclusion of the year.
**Summer School at MHS is open only to students who will be in grades 9-12 for the 2021-2022 academic year. No students who will be entering 8th grade for the 2021-2022 school year are eligible to take the high school credit courses (Geometry or Algebra II) either for the purposes of attaining credit or enrichment.Summer Geometry Prerequisites:
Current 8th Grade Honors Students (School Year '20-'21):If you are enrolled in Algebra I Part II Honors, you must maintain an 85 average in your current class to enroll in the summer class. To remain in honors math at the high school, you must pass the summer class, sit for the proficiency exam and score an 85 on that exam. Note: Should you meet the first two portions of this requirement but fail to score an 85 on the proficiency exam, you can speak to your high school counselor as you have the option of progressing to Algebra II CP or repeating Geometry Honors as a freshman.Current Grade 8-9 CP Algebra I Students (School Year '20-'21):You must maintain a 90 in your current Algebra I class to be eligible to enroll in the Geometry summer class. Upon passing the summer class you will be placed into Algebra II CP in grade 9.Summer Algebra II Prerequisites:Current Geometry Honors Students (School Year '20-'21):Students must maintain an 85 average in their current Geometry Honors class to enroll in the summer program. To remain in honors level math at the high school, students must pass the summer class, sit for the proficiency exam and score an 85 on that exam. Note: Should students meet the first two portions of this requirement but fail to score an 85 on the proficiency exam, you can speak to your high school counselor as you have the option of progressing to Precalculus CP, Advanced Algebra/Trigonometry or repeating Algebra II Honors at the high school in '21-'22.Current Geometry CP students (School Year '20-'21):You must maintain an 90 in your current Geometry class AND have gotten a final grade of 90 or higher in MHS Algebra I or UMS Algebra I Part II to be eligible to enroll in the Algebra II summer class. Upon passing the summer class you will be placed into the next level of math for school year '21-'22.
This summer, S.O.A.R will be offering the following Summer School courses:
Credit Classes: Based on Pass/Fail
Geometry (5 Credits)
Algebra II (5 Credits)
Financial Literacy (2.5 Credits)Geometry & Algebra IIThe courses will be taught over a five week period beginning June 28th and ending July 30th
Geometry and Algebra II are full year courses (120 hours ) and will be in session every day from8 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. June 28-July 30
This is a half-year course (60 hours ) and will also run from8 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. This course will be fully virtual, NOT in person.It will be offered in two sessions:
Session 1: June 28-July 13
Session 2: July 14-July 29
**Please note the Financial Literacy class will satisfy EITHER the state graduation requirement in Financial Literacy, OR count for 2.5 MHS credits toward career exploration.Science Preview ClassesIn addition, we will be offering Chemistry preview courses as well for high school students. We will offer these courses in 2 sessions.Please be advised....Once you have signed up for a course there will be NO REFUNDS if you cancel your registration. Refunds will ONLY be given if a class is cancelled due to enrollment numbers not meeting 10 students.** We will ONLY be able to refund for the amount for the class and NOT the convenience fee of either 3.95% for credit card or $1.75 for online check**
