Welcome Back!

August, 2017

Dear Parents and Guardians:

I hope this letter finds you having an enjoyable summer. We have been extremely busy planning for your child’s arrival on September 7, 2017. Included in this letter is a brief snapshot of all we have planned for the upcoming year. This letter will also be posted on the district website with links that might be of interest to you. Please be sure to read our weekly Friday eBlast, our once per week update on all things MTSD! Back to school nights, football games, and concerts...are all there!

There is wonderful news to share for the 17-18 school year. Although we said goodbye to some revered teaching staff members, this year we welcome over 50 new teachers to our staff. This new staff comes to us from a variety of backgrounds and levels of experience. We are proud to not only recruit top-notch teachers for your children, but we are also equally proud for them to join our existing world-class faculty and staff!

We are thrilled to share the general timelines for completion for the approved referendum projects. We continue to be grateful for your support of our district and are excited for the upcoming facility enhancements. Just like in baseball, we too experienced some rain delays. Our completed projects are so exciting. Just wait until you see some of our new and renovated spaces! The renovation update was sent electronically to you on 8/30.

As you may recall, last fall many of you participated in our Strategic Planning process, a process aimed at gathering community stakeholder input to inform our district in the creation of a district road map for the next 3-5 years. We have completed the research phase and are now in the process of creating action plans, timelines, and outcomes. During the fall, we will be assigning metrics, or ways to measure our progress, to each specific action. Our August 15th presentation to the Board of Education, which was very high level, is located on the district website. We have approximately 90 staff involved on our goal teams. Please follow our Strategic Planning progress on the district website. Please see our new District goals by clicking here.

The highlight of our plan involves the creation of a Portrait of a Graduate. This document outlines the priorities as reported by all stakeholders during our information gathering phase. This fall we begin to incorporate the characteristics of a Montgomery graduate in all that we do. Moving forward, this will be our district anchor. All efforts, from PK-12, will be aimed at fostering these areas in our students, academically, socially and emotionally. Please see our current draft of Portrait of a Graduate.

I look forward to another successful school year and look forward to seeing you at our school events. Our teachers are committed, talented and incredibly well-trained to greet your children on September 7, 2017.
