    Dear Montgomery Township School Community,

The Montgomery Township School District (MTSD) is conducting a Cultural Diversity Audit as the next step in its Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Initiative. Cultural Diversity Audits are important assessment tools that are used to determine a school communities' readiness to support a diversity, equity, and inclusion initiative, or to monitor the health of an already established initiative.

The MTSD Cultural Diversity Audit is designed to increase our capacity to meet the growing needs of our diverse school community while advancing our understanding of cultural literacy. Through its emphasis on diversity, it also supports the goals associated with the district’s Portrait of a Graduate. This audit will focus on the perspectives of students, staff, and parents/guardians.

In support of this effort, MTSD has enlisted the guidance of Dr. Robin Daniels from INFLIGHT, LLC. Dr. Daniels is an Educational Consultant and Certified Change Practitioner. She utilizes her wealth of experience as a teacher, principal, and assistant superintendent to advance diversity initiatives. In partnership with the MTSD Audit Support Team, Dr. Daniels will conduct a Cultural Diversity Audit of our district.  This audit is unique as it is intended to explore the cultural understandings of our organization. We are seeking to identify the strengths that we can build upon for our future diversity initiatives. We welcome and encourage your participation in our Cultural Diversity Audit.

Our comprehensive audit consists of three parts: surveys, focus groups, and a final report.  Surveys will be issued to three stakeholder groups:  students, parents, and staff. The surveys are anonymous. Survey responses will be collected and summarized by Dr. Daniels at INFLIGHT, LLC.   The results of the surveys will be used to guide our focus groups.

Surveys will be administered following the schedule below:

    • Survey for Students, Grades 5 -12
      • Thursday, March 11, 2021, through March 25, 2021
    • Survey for Teachers, Counselors, and Para-professionals
      • Thursday, March 11, 2021, through March 25, 2021
    • Survey for Parents/Guardians
      • Wednesday, April 12, 2021, through April 23, 2021

The second step will include seeking volunteers to form focus groups. The purpose of the focus groups is to review the survey responses and provide insight as we collectively move towards cultural literacy. Focus Groups will be conducted after the data collection from all three surveys is complete. Dr. Daniels will present the district with the final report in early June 2021. The findings will be shared with the school community soon after the report is reviewed.

We are excited about this wonderful opportunity to learn, reflect, and share. We are an ever-changing school community that values all its members. Thank you in advance for being a part of this important project.
