I hope your child is enjoying second grade! We have launched reading and writing workshops. In reading, Unit 1 focuses on growing our reading stamina, and strategies to decode new words.In writing, we will begin small moment stories, true stories about ourselves. Help your child recall a time when they had a BIG feeling.  For example, the first time they rode a bike without training wheels, a home run during a baseball game, or building a sandcastle at the beach.

In second grade, reading continues to be a very important part of your child’s development as a learner. I believe it is important for all children to enjoy books-whether they read them or someone reads to them. I ask that your child read on a daily basis to deepen their fluency and comprehension skills. Encourage your child to read at home for a minimum of 20 minutes per night.

Birthday Celebrations- If you would like to come in to read a book to the class to celebrate your child’s birthday, please let me know! Thank you!
