Mrs. Nancy E Ziedonis

March is a busy month!

We have wrapped up our non fiction reading and writing units by celebrating our published nonfiction books with our classmates. We finished up our book clubs where students read about a topic across several books. Here they grew conversations with a partner, noticing what information is the same, and what information is different.  Last, the children completed an independent research project on the Chromebook Students had an opportunity to present and teach others.

In reading, we are moving onto studying characters and story elements. Children will follow a character and infer the character's feelings and motivations using text evidence to support their thinking. Next we will  focus on the skills needed to read bigger books! The focus will be on fluency, noticing figurative language as we read, and tracking longer books!

In writing, the children are writing realistic fiction stories - narrative stories about realistic characters. The children will dream up a character like themselves, imagine problems that character might face and write edge of your seat, suspenseful stories that keep the reader interested!

In math, we completed  Unit 4, Measurement. We are beginning Unit 5, Place Value to One Thousand
